Teachers play a huge role in our lives. While we appreciate all of them, most of us will often find a few teachers whom we connect with more than others due to various reasons. If you ever received a prompt to write an essay on your favourite teacher, here is a step-by-step guide to writing the essay.
Step-by-Step Guide To Write An Essay On ‘My Favourite Teacher’
Step 1: Decide who to write about
The first thing you need to decide on when writing an essay on the topic of ‘My Favourite Teacher’ is to choose who to write about. While you can write about someone completely fictional, this can be quite difficult even for native English speakers. It would be much easier for you to start writing your essay based on someone you know.
You can choose to write about anyone who has taught you in the past or present. It could be your school teacher, tuition teacher, or your music teacher. If you have several favourite teachers, you don’t have to spend too much time figuring out which one to write about. Just choose someone whom you can talk about the most or have specific qualities that you like.
When reading the essay question, make sure to also take note of any prompts that you are required to respond to in your essay. For example, if you need to share where they’re from, why you like them or when they taught you.
Step 2: Brainstorm ideas on what to write about
Before you start writing, brainstorm points that you would like to include in your essay on ‘My Favourite Teacher’. You can use the questions below to help you come up with ideas.

In the body paragraphs, you will need to expand your points. Instead of just describing or listing down the different reasons you like the teacher, choose a few key characteristics or reasons and then explain and give some examples.

Step 5: Conclude your essay
Your conclusion doesn't have to be long; the paragraph can simply be one or two sentences long. In this essay, you conclude by summarising the points that you’ve mentioned or you can simply reaffirm how you feel about the teacher. Just make sure to avoid introducing new points in your conclusion.
Step 6: Proofread your essay
After writing your ‘My Favourite Teacher’ essay, take some time to go over what you’ve written to spot any mistakes that you might have made. Look out for grammatical and spelling errors as well as any missing punctuation.

Sample Essay: My Favourite Teacher
Over the years, I’ve had a number of great teachers. Among those teachers, Pn Asma stands out from the rest. She is my current English teacher and she also heads the English Club in school.
Pn Asma is one of the most patient people I have ever met. She always takes the time to explain things to us thoroughly. She also often encourages us to do our best and reminds us to not worry about making mistakes as that’s part of the learning process. As a result, my confidence to speak in English has improved a lot since she started teaching me.
Despite having taught for many years, Pn Asma is still young at heart and remains enthusiastic about her work. She puts in a lot of effort to plan fun and interactive lessons for us. During her lessons, we have done roleplays, quizzes, and debates. We even went on a treasure hunt once. I love how she makes learning easy and enjoyable.
Besides that, Pn Asma has a very cheerful and warm personality which makes her classroom very inviting. I always look forward to the days when I have English lessons. While she may no longer teach me next year, I’m glad that I’d still get to see her regularly during English Club sessions.
To sum it up, I’m lucky to have Pn Asma as my teacher and I know that she will always have a special place in my heart even after I have left school.
